What Is Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE)?
Hexagon Digital Wave, formed in 1992 by president Dr. Michael Gorman, focused on designing acoustic emission equipment; specifically, it was a result of his research involving the relationship between source, material and the wave modes excited in typical engineered structures. (Modal acoustic emission is much like seismology, where the wave modes produced by earthquakes are used to infer the type of source). These advancements have put Digital Wave at the forefront of the acoustic emission industry. Primary MAE focus in recent times has been in the metallic and composite pressure vessel industries. Composite Tube Requalification, Testing, Design and Life Extension
Hexagon Digital Wave has been granted Special Permits allowing Modal Acoustic Emission requalification in lieu of Hydro for large natural gas composite tubes. Due to the length and diameter of these tubes it is inconvenient, if not impossible, to hydrostatically requalify these tubes. MAE provides for a cost saving alternative. Tubes can be requalifcied insitu or removed from the supporting structure. Please contact us for pricing.
